A little bit more….
An unknown author once said “Change is the essence of life. Be willing to surrender what you are for what you could become.” That’s where we find ourselves today as a church. We are in the midst of big change; a change of location, a change of focus, a change of heart. We find ourselves at a crossroads where we can no longer stay as we are, so we must move towards what we could be.
We believe that God has unique purpose and direction for every church; some are called to go to the world, some to where they live. We believe in Trail and have a heart for this community. Our goal is to see God glorified and lifted up in our home, in this valley. How? How are we going to do this?
Good question! You’ve heard of Location, Location, Location? Well here’s what we believe we have to do to accomplish this goal:
-
Relationship!
With God - Evangelist J.I. Packer says this about our purpose as Christians:
“What were we made for? To know God. What aim should we have in life? To know God. What is the eternal life that Jesus gives? To know God. What is the best thing in life? To know God. What in humans gives God most pleasure? Knowledge of himself.”
From what we preach on a Sunday to our bible studies and home groups to the songs we sing the goal should be to know God; not just knowledge about Him or the right church things to do, but a deep, intimate relationship with Him – there can be no substitute. The old adage stands true, to know HIM is to love HIM and to love HIM is to know HIM! The Bible says that there’s only one way to God and that’s through Jesus Christ (John 14:6
), so if you want to know God, Jesus is the only way! -
Relationship!
With each other - Paul says in Ephesians 4:1-6
:“I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, 3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in your all.”
One of the best ways to know if our relationship with God is on the right track, is to observe our relationship with one another. If the world is to know that we are followers of Christ “by our love” (John 13:35
), then we ought to truly love each other, right? So, let’s make this a priority! -
Relationship!
With the world - 2 Corinthians 9:9-11
in the Message Bible says:This most generous God who gives seed to the farmer that becomes bread for your meals is more than extravagant with you. He gives you something you can then give away, which grows into full-formed lives, robust in God, wealthy in every way, so that you can be generous in every way, producing with us great praise to God.
We believe that like Abraham, we are “blessed to be a blessing”, this community should be blessed by our presence here! Our neighbours and coworkers ought know the goodness and graciousness of God because of us! The people we see everyday, our friends, family and the people we work with, should have their lives enriched because we (and the God in us) are part of it! After all, that’s what we’re here for isn’t it? Jesus said that the “Spirit of the Lord was upon Him and He was anointed to preach good news”! (Luke 4:18
). Let’s be like Christ, let Trail experience good news because of what we say and do!In a nutshell, that’s who we are and who we are striving to be. To see what we believe, click here.
